The first two portraits are of a live model. Both are the same just in different lighting.
The uniqueness about this portrait is that I did it with ink. The technique is called "stippling".
Stippling is when you fill a special stippling pen with ink and drop it onto the canvas. Because the ink is thin liquid (unlike in ball point pens) when you drop it onto the canvas a small amount of ink seeps from the end of the pen and forms a dot.
The darker the area the more dots are needed and therefore you have to drop your pen that many times more. The lighter the area the less dots are needed.
This portrait took me three weeks to finish. It is 14" X 17". The person was thrilled with it.
There is no way to blend edges when a portrait is created with ink as the media. There is also no room for a mistake. If you do make a mistake you will either have to camouflage it or start over on a new canvas.
The nineh and tenth portrait down is a live 4 year old model.which was my first portrait. It is done in pencil.
The other portraits are in pencil. I did not have models and created these from my imagination. Which of course makes them look less real.
The portrait created with ink will last at least one hundred (100) years if it is taken care of. The pencil will last anywhere between thirty-fifty ((30-50) years also depending on it's care.
Next To The Last Drawing is Done in Charcoal, which makes it darker and more precise.
I have always wanted to draw cartoons. Below I have included my attempt at a cartoon valley.
These are COPYRIGHTED WORKS! The law protects artists against use, modifications or destruction that is prejudicial to the artist's honor or reputation.
Perception is the key to drawing.
When looking at a subject just draw the shadows. Draw the shadows around the nose and the white area will become the nose. Carefully perceive the shapes of the shadows and if you can draw these shapes then you can learn to draw.

Hi Deborah!
I really like your drawings, nice page.
I love art/drawing even though I haven't increased much on skill level. I like to do abstract & people I haven't mastered by no means- they don't look real. All your people look real. Thanks for the tips on drawing & thanks for sharing your talent!!
God bless you!
This is beautiful work! I need to check out more of your art. How I would love to develop portrait skills...but then I look at work like this and don't feel I could ever get there. Your encouragement at the end to work on the skill made me smile! Thanks so much for sharing--and encouraging. :)

Deborah, your work is terrific and you are clearly quite talented. If you offered the ink portrait to the model, I'm certain she will treasure it forever.
The pencil drawings from your imagination are also extremely well done. You have a true talent for portrait art--a very difficult skill to master. Thanks for sharing.
