The Missing Books Of The Bible

The Missing Books Of The Old Testament.
There are a few books that are considered a part of the Bible by some and rejected by others.
I suppose there is no way to prove those books were written to be included. However there are many books mentioned in the Old Testament scripture that has not been included in any Bible that I know of. Were these books lost or destroyed? Did the Hebrews hide some of the scrolls so that the uninitiated could not use them for the destruction of themselves and others?
Because the books were mentioned and referenced by the Prophets of God and are contained within their own writings in the Old Testament, these books were also inspired of God.
What are we missing?
Most know about the Book of Enoch (1 Enoch 1:9 is quoted in the New Testament in Jude 1: 14-15) but what about the others.
The Book of Jasher can be bought today and some versions appear on the internet and in PDF form.
The Book Of Jasher
Joshua 10:13
Is not this written in the Book of Jasher?
2 Samuel 1:18
Behold it is written in the Book of Jasher
Here is the passage from Joshua 10:
"... and he [Joshua] said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the Lord hearkened to the voice of man: for the Lord fought for Israel."
The Book of Jasher is very enlightening as it helps to shed light on scripture in the Torah and the English Old Testament.
Here is a passage in Jasher 88.63-64
"...and Joshua said in the sight of all the people, Sun, stand thou still upon
Gibeon, and thou moon in the valley of Ajalon, until the nation shall have
revenged itself upon its enemies... And the sun stood still in the midst of the
heavens, and it stood still six and thirty moments, and the moon also stood still and hastened not to go down a whole day. And there was no day like that before
it or after it, that the Lord hearkened to the voice of man, for the Lord fought for
Israel."
When David expressed deep grief and disappointment over Saul's death he referred to a quote of Jacob's in the Book of Jasher 56.9
The Book Of The Wars Of The Lord
Numbers 21:14
Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon
I can also see why the Christians would remove the Book of Curses since they teach against this. This book was probably removed on purpose and not lost.
The Book Of Curses
Numbers 5:23
And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot them out with the bitter water
Ecclesiastes could be a part of The Book of The Acts of Solomon
The Book Of The Acts Of Solomon
1 Kings 11:41
And the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon?
Concerning The Books Of Nathan and Gad. I think the Book of Nathan was left out because they decided to leave out the Book of Gad. To keep The Book of Samuel as part of the Bible (Which they did) and also keep the Book of Nathan would have exposed their intentions. Why? Because Samuel and Gad were both Seers and as most know, the Christian doctrine is against Seers. Scriptures mention the Acts of the Seers, so Gad was not the only one. The Books of Nathan and Gad may have identified too many Seers for the comfort of those putting the Bible together.
The Book Of Nathan and The Book Of Gad
1 Chronicles 29:29
Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer
2 Chronicles 9:29
Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer against Jeroboam the son of Nebat?
The Book Of Shemaiah
2 Chronicles 12:15
Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
The Books Of The Kings Of Judah and Israel
2 Chronicles 16:11
And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel
The Book Of Jehu
2 Chronicles 20:34
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
2 Chronicles 24:27
Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.
The Books I have mentioned are only a few. How many more were taken from us? Were they lost or destroyed and why?
Why aren't these mentioned? Why haven't we been given these to read? I will be doing more research and possibly updating this hub.

This was interesting. I know there's a whole set of apochrypha that isn't included in the standard set of old and new Testaments. I don't know why.
Those aren't the names of the missing books I was thinking of, though. I know one is called the book of the Macabees, and it's old Testament. Another is a New Testament book by Joseph.
Yes it is always good to do a little research on any subject. And while you're at it, you should first find out how the first believers decided what books to include in the Christian Scriptures. And also which ones to to exclude.
I do know that one of the first things the Early Christian believers did was to do a lock down on the books that will make up what we now call as The Old & The Testament.
And I'm thinking it was probably the best they have done for future generations of believers or depending on how you view it, the worst thing that could have ever happened.
I also do not discount the fact that certain "books" are forever lost or at least not found yet, so they may still be out there waiting to be "discovered".
The books of the Bible were "inspired by God" that is written by God through human authors.
The books mentioned here, including the Apocrypha, were not inspired by God and not meant to be part of the Holy Bible.
Interesting. I, too, was expecting a different list, so you have given me some new food for thought. Thanks :)
The bible can be very confusing, and contradicting at times. I have heard of the writing of the young Jesus that has been omitted. It's not suprising that long ago men would edit out what did not correlate with a certain blue print of future coming events. Also the writing of the life of Jesus was written a hundred or so years after his death. In a hundred years what will be said of John F, Kennedy or Martin Luther King. The stories and legends can get very expanded.
I think that there is a lot of history, knowledge,
and things yet to be learn. And i think now is the
appointed time to unveil the rest of the story.
How much of today's canon was decided upon at the Council of Nicea?
I don't even know enough to be dangerous!
Wasn't getting selected for inclusion a bit political, too?
True!
Hi Deborah,
An interesting hub this. The books you mentioned are largely new to me. Were they removed by the early Catholic Church or by the the Jewish Priesthood? I think that the 'who' will give us a bearing as to the 'why'.
If by the Jews then perhaps these OT books were removed because although being of historical merit, they were not considered cannon. Which would be a little odd because a seer/prophet is considered to speak under God's inspiration. If by the church, then yes, what did they not want us to see?
I have a book 'The Lost Books of the Bible' ISBN: 0-517-27795-6 which contains 28 'lost' NT books. To be honest I got though two thirds of them before boredom crept in. On the whole I found them uninspiring and hard to read. One talks about Jesus' boyhood days in which He is said to have made some birds out of clay and brought them to life. In it he is also alleged to have killed another little boy. Another book talks about a pheonix which the writer claims is a wonderful bird that actually exists and praises God for its creation. On balance I can see why the early church did leave them out. THey don't offer any great new revelation and do not in any way match the prose and profound teachings of the NT books we do have. Perhaps you could have a look yourself and tell us what you think. I'd also be very interested in any future hubs you publish on this subject.
Hi Deb.Interesting that LisaG commented"the books of the bible were Inspired by God".
Who and How was it determined which books were and were not"Inspired"by God?Someone must have made that decision huh.
Why is it that scholars like you and I who have done the research are discounted by Fundamentalists who have nothing more than there personal"Conviction"to tell others what is"Inspired by God"!lol
Excellent Hub as usual Deb
Thanks
Dean
I agree with you 100% Deborah, I do believe they left them out- to control us through fear etc! And I also agree that one book is no different than the rest! Since they were written- then it was left for people for a reason, but apparently someone thought differently-
From what I have also been told there was a Book of Enoch and another but I can't remember it- have you checked into that? Enoch- I probably misspelled that, but you know what I'm saying I hope. Any way- Excellent Hub! Triple A +, thanks for the information.
First, very excellent and accurate references.
Second, I have always been a firm believer that written information regarding history is nonexclusive nor privy to a select group. It is obvious from present divisions among beliefs that written history has issues. Perhaps the best reference would be the Author, who is the only actual necessary source and purpose of that history, yes?
Cheers,
James.
If I said this was excellent I fear I would be guilty of a great understatement. Keep on writing. I love your work.
Thanks for this. I'll be looking those and reading about them, and praying for God's guidence as to whether or not I should read them. Thanks for pointing them out.
This is an unusual and fascinating hub. I wish more people wrote hubs like this!
I admire you and your studied research. I am amazed that with all your irons in the fire you have time for working to the extent you do to further understand God's relationship to mortals. May God continue to bless you, is my prayer this Christian Sabbath Day.
This is your secret place?

Those are interesting observations, probably well known to Bible scholars but new to me.
But it has long been said that certain things were left out of the bible, depending on the prevailing ideology.
I mean, the original bible teachings never said that priests could not marry.
Sometimes those with the information withhold it to support their position, they are not interested in the truth - especially if it is not their version of the truth.
there are many instances of this in fiction and I have reviewed one book that shows this here http://hubpages.com/t/13ef1a .
Should you find out more I would be interested to read about it.
